Detachment A-502
was unique in both men and mission. Typically, a Special Forces A-Team has
12 men, two officers and 10 NCO's (non commissioned officers). However,
because of its mission assignment, A-502 became the largest A-Team ever
to exist. The team was at its greatest number in mid 1968 when it
had approximately 56 men. Team members celebrated A-502's unique status
by erecting a sign over the teamhouse declaring it "The Largest A-Team in
the World."
The men of A-502 were a blend of races, religions,
and social backgrounds. We were black, white, and brown. We
were Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, and more. We were . . . an All American
Team. For that reason, it is with great pride that the members of A-502 are
listed on the following pages.
By clicking on "Roll Call" to the left, you will
view an alphabetical listing of all A-502 team members. The scroll function
can be stopped by placing your cursor on any name you choose to view. The
list was compiled through various official and unofficial sources. If the
source was not official, the name was obtained through a reliable source
or another team member who served with that individual. It some cases,
even on official records, only a last name was listed.
The webmaster has used every resource available to
identify each A-502 team member who served. If you or a family member
served on A-502, if you know someone who served there, or if
you recognize a name and can supply missing information, please contact the
webmaster. Simply click the "Contacts" button for an email link to
the webmaster.
To view a list of team members by the year they served,
click on the the appropriate year to the left. These lists were compiled
by listing team members in the year they joined A-502. In
many cases, both rank and individual assignments changed while assigned to the team.
For that reason, all positions and assignments are not listed. However,
regardless of duty assignment, every man served in a key position while with A-502.
