Diamond Engagement Ring - Diamond Clarity Grades

Engagement Rings and the clarity grade of the diamonds they hold . . . learn what you need to know.

Diamond Engagement Ring - Diamond Clarity Grades

Engagement Ring Diamonds and every loose diamond has a clarity grade.  The chart above provides a graphic guide to the various clarity grades so that you will know what to expect when you begin shopping for that special engagement ring or loose diamond.  Each diamond clarity grade is explained below.

An "F" clarity grade is Flawless inside and out, a dramatically clear example of perfection.  An IF is an Internally Flawless diamond.  This means that, when examining a diamond with a 10X loupe or microscope, only very minor externally attributed imperfections exist.  As their names imply, VVS1 and VVS2 have Very, Very Slight naturally occurring phenomena called "inclusions".  VS1 and VS2 have Very Slight inclusions. SI1 and SI2 have Slight Inclusions.  Diamonds with visible inclusions that can be seen with the naked eye are graded Imperfect; I1, I2, or I3 depending on the number, color, type and position of the inclusions.  These grades and diamond grading specifically is important because it will effect the price you pay for your diamond engagement ring or loose diamond.

Typically, VS2, SI1, and SI2 . . . depending on flaw type and placement, offer the best value in clarity for every dollar you have to spend.  Again, after looking at different clarity grades, you will decide which one meets your personal needs.  We have sold every diamond clarity grade described above, from Flawless to I3.   Our general guidance is that you select a diamond with as few inclusions located under the "table" as possible.  The table is the large facet on top of the diamond and inclusions located directly beneath it are usually easy to see.  Inclusions located towards the edges of the diamond are, generally, difficult to see unless they are large.  Here, again, your own two eyes should play the key role in helping you decide how any particular grade effects beauty.
